Essay: Assessment of Knowledge
Sample Essay
The knowledge, skill level and the learning needs of the learners would be evaluated through a question and answer session. Initially, the learners would be invited to share the information they already possess about the lesson. The learners would be encouraged to speak up and there will be no critical judgment of their knowledge. All the learners would be given a chance to speak. In this manner, it would be evaluated whether the concepts of the learners are in conformity with the lesson or they are off the track. After the learners present their own views about the topic, they would be asked general questions. This would further strengthen the assessment and the learning need of the learners would be evaluated in this manner (Svinicki & McKeachie, 2011).
The findings of the needs assessment would assist in the overall planning of the lesson. It would be determined whether the lesson needs to explained extensively in order to rebuild the concepts of the learners or the concepts only need to be revised. If, as a result of the needs assessment, it is found out that the learners have an idea about the lesson which is in conformity with the theoretical and practical aspects of the lesson, it would affect the planning of the lesson in such a manner that more time would be allocated towards practical application of the concepts rather than the theoretical concepts. However, if it is determined that the learners need to be explained about the concepts from the very scratch, the allocation of time for theoretical and practical aspects of the lesson would be even (Billings & Halstead, 2009).
