Did the Sentencing Reforms Act address the major concerns raised over the previous judicial system? In my opinion, the intended purpose of the act was not fully achieved. The guidelines outlined by the Act were extremely callous in some cases and very rigid rendering flexibility almost impossible. Consequently, judges were denied the power of discretion in handing of sentences though they were free to exercise the same discretion when evaluating case contents.
